Small sample of bed bugs test positive for VRE and MRSA. Great. It’s not clear whether they transmit these bacteria though their bite, but it’s not good news. See here for news story, and here for journal article.
Hand Washing and Hospital Acquired Infections April 27, 2011

One of the best ways to reduce hospital acquired infections is for the staff, patients and visitors to wash their hands. However, hand washing compliance is dismal. Here’s an interesting New York times article on this topic, including some numbers.
One interesting point is that Medicare, Medicaid and insurance companies will no longer pay for treating preventable hospital acquired infections.
