About

Look, it's me!
My purpose in creating this blog is to
- Disseminate useful and practical information relating to software development and human computer interaction. I’ve read many articles that are not useful to someone outside a research context. However, every once in while, I come across an article that has implications for practitioners. I’ve even written a few of them myself! Whether article, book, or website, I will post those here. Look for the tag practical.
- Provide information on syndromic surveillance and public health, since I’m currently working in that area.
Bio
I’m currently a researcher, conducting mainly applied research in HCI (Human Computer Interaction). My recent work has focused on HCI relating to medical records, particularly for syndromic surveillance. In this context I am involved in a large CRTI project to install a syndromic surveillance system in Ottawa (Canada).
I briefly worked in the Corporate Design Group (CDG) at Bell-Northern Research (which was bought by Nortel Networks). While at BNR, I worked on service concepts for broadband communications. Part of my duties included user-interface design. At Carnegie Mellon University, I worked on spatial cognition and psycholinguistics.
