About

Look, it's me!

Look, it's me!

My purpose in creating this blog is to

  1. Disseminate useful and practical information relating to software development and human computer interaction. I’ve read many articles that are not useful to someone outside a research context. However, every once in while, I come across an article that has implications for practitioners. I’ve even written a few of them myself! Whether article, book, or website, I will post those here. Look for the tag practical.
  2. Provide information on syndromic surveillance and public health, since I’m currently working in that area.

Bio

I’m currently a researcher, conducting mainly applied research in HCI (Human Computer Interaction). My recent work has focused on HCI relating to medical records, particularly for syndromic surveillance. In this context I am involved in a large CRTI project to install a syndromic surveillance system in Ottawa (Canada).

I briefly worked  in the Corporate Design Group (CDG) at Bell-Northern Research (which was bought by Nortel Networks). While at BNR, I worked on service concepts for broadband communications. Part of my duties included user-interface design. At Carnegie Mellon University, I worked on spatial cognition and psycholinguistics.
